How to share memory between ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor
ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor each keep their own memory, and none of them can read the others'. To share one memory between them, connect all of them to the same memory server over MCP, then import what each already knows about you. From then on, what you tell one of them, the rest can recall.

Why your assistants don't share what they know
Each assistant keeps a small memory of its own, in its own silo. ChatGPT's lives in your OpenAI account and Claude's in your Anthropic account, while coding tools such as Cursor lean on rules files in each project. They are built by different companies, stored in different places, and none of them can read another's.
So you tell ChatGPT you write in British English, and Claude still spells it the American way. Claude works through your pricing on Tuesday, and on Thursday Cursor has never heard of it. The more assistants you use, the more often you repeat yourself.
Copying memories across: quick, then stale
You can ask one assistant to list what it remembers and paste the list into another's custom instructions. Claude even has an import for exactly this, which Anthropic calls experimental: you paste in what another assistant remembers, and Claude adds it to its own memory.
Either way it is a copy, made once. Then you tell one of them something new, the copies drift apart, and every new tool means doing it all again.
One memory that every assistant shares
The lasting fix is to keep the memory outside all of them. A memory server that speaks MCP can be connected to ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, VS Code and the rest at the same time. Each one gets the same two tools, one to save and one to search, and every save lands in one memory bank that all of them read.

Step by step
- Create a memory bank at app.guardianmemory.com. An email address and a password, nothing else.
- Connect ChatGPT. Settings → Connectors → Create, paste the endpoint below and choose OAuth. Custom connectors need developer mode switched on.
- Connect Claude. On claude.ai or in the desktop app, Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, and paste the same endpoint.
- Connect Cursor and your other tools. Editors take the endpoint in their
mcp.json, and Claude Code takes it in one command: steps for each. - Tell each one to use it. Paste a short instruction into each assistant's custom instructions so it reads your memory first and saves as it goes: copy the instruction.

The first time each assistant connects, a browser window opens so you can approve it. There is no key to paste.
Move what they already know
Your assistants will hand over what they remember if you ask. This prompt works in ChatGPT, Claude and any other assistant with a memory of its own:
Paste into each assistant
List everything you remember about me: preferences, facts about my work, projects, people and decisions. Write one fact per line, as a complete sentence in the third person using my name, with no headings, numbering or commentary.
Paste the lists into the Import page, up to 500 at a time. Bullets, numbering and quotes are stripped, and duplicates across the lists merge as they land. An import never retires anything already in your bank, so read the list through and drop whatever is out of date before you paste it.
Then pin the few that always matter. Pinned memories lead the profile every assistant reads at the start of a conversation: how you write, what you are working on, who you work for.
What changes afterwards
Tell ChatGPT something on Monday and Cursor knows it on Thursday. Change your mind in Claude, and the old fact is retired for every assistant at once. The Activity page shows which assistant saved or searched what, and when, and disconnecting an app ends its access that second.
You do not have to switch off the memories built into each assistant. ChatGPT can keep its own, and the instruction asks it to save to GuardianMemory too, so everything else you use learns the same things.
Questions people ask
How do I transfer my ChatGPT memory to Claude?
Ask ChatGPT to list what it remembers, one fact per line, and paste the list into GuardianMemory's Import page. Connect Claude to GuardianMemory and it can read all of it, along with everything either assistant saves from then on. Claude's own import copies the list once instead.
Can ChatGPT read Claude's memory?
Not directly. Neither can read the other's built-in memory. Connect both to the same GuardianMemory bank and each can read what either of them saves there.
Do I have to turn off ChatGPT's own memory?
No. Leave it on if you like. The instruction asks ChatGPT to save to GuardianMemory as well, so your other assistants learn the same things.
Will my existing memories move across by themselves?
No. Built-in memories stay where they are until you copy them out. Ask each assistant to list what it remembers and paste the lists into the Import page. After that, new memories are shared as soon as they are saved.
Which assistants can share a GuardianMemory bank?
Any MCP client, including Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor, Windsurf and VS Code. Agents and scripts that do not speak MCP can use the REST API.
Can I see which assistant saved what?
Yes. Every memory records the assistant that saved it, and the Activity page lists every save and search by app, with the time.
